DREAMGIRLS - First Day I am there!!!
Effie White, Deena Jones, and Lorrell Robinson - three friends from Chicago - are a promising singing trio called The Dreamettes. Accompanied by their songwriter C.C. White (Effie's brother), they travel to New York to compete in a talent show at the Apollo Theatre. Although the girls lose this first bid for fame, their talent attracts an ambitious manager by the name of Curtis Taylor, Jr., who uses unscrupulous tactics to move the girls from backup singers of superstar James "Thunder" Early to superstars of their own. Curtis reshapes the group to "crossover" from R & B to the lucrative pop music scene. Lead singer Effie gets replaced by the more attractive Deena and is eventually dropped from the trio. SOHH was right you cannot lighly throw around The Writings on the Wall (TWOTW) comparisons, that was a VERY, VERY well put together album and the success is just a tetament of how great it was. I downloaded Cherish's CD, Unappreciated and I must say I was very surprised. I enjoyed the hell out of it! Great R&B, and lyrically it was much more than I expected from a young girl group, I (thinkin as an adult) could relate to alot of the songs! I never thought I would be comparing Cherish to Destiny's Child...but I definately see the potential with these girls! They have the formula AND they have staying power since they are sisters I am not seeing that catty switch-aroo that (for me) took my favorite group AWAY. I am not gonna front everytime I see Destiny's Child Now I miss Latavia's sass even if she was just singin background she was just sooo noticeable!
This CD for Cherish is like Distiny's first. A great CD that needed a couple of songs to jump start it. Unappreciated is there No, No, No...They most definately got my attention...Cherish SHOULD have been compared to FIRST album DC. They are not as polished as TWOTW DC. Remember DC only was able to hang in there after wyclef hooked up No, No, No Remix thats when everyone took notice. I am JUST noticing cherish with this song...I have played it like 15 times in a row. Be sure to Check out OOOh and moment in Time, these girls are on FIRE!!!!

NEW YORK - Gerald Levert, the fiery singer of passionate R&B love songs and the son of O'Jays singer Eddie Levert, died on Friday. He was 40.
His label, Atlantic Records, confirmed that Levert died at his home in Cleveland, Ohio.
"All of us at Atlantic are shocked and deeply saddened by his untimely death. He was one of the greatest voices of our time, who sang with unmatched soulfulness and power, as well as a tremendously gifted composer and an accomplished producer," the statement read.
Dan Bomeli, public relations manager at University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center in suburban Cleveland, said Levert had been brought to the hospital. Bomeli said Levert had died but he had no further details.
Over his two-decade music career, Levert sold millions of albums and had numerous R&B hits.
Levert first gained fame in 1986 as a member of the R&B trio LeVert, which also included his brother, Sean, and childhood friend Marc Gordon. They quickly racked up hits like "(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind," "Casanova," and "Baby I'm Ready."
But Gerald Levert's voice — powerful and soulful, almost a carbon copy of his father's — was always the focal point, and in 1991, he made his solo debut with the album "Private Line," which included a hit duet with his dad, "Baby Hold on to Me." His father also recorded the successful album "Father & Son."
Levert was known for his sensual, romantic songs, but unlike a Luther Vandross, whose voice and songs were more genteel, Levert's music was explosive and raw — his 2002 album was titled "The G Spot."
Though Levert was successful as a solo singer, in 1997 he got into group mode again — joining with R&B singers Johnny Gill and Keith Sweat for the supergroup of LSG. The self-titled album sold more than two million copies, and their hits included the sensual "My Body." Levert also worked with other artists as a songwriter and producer.
His most recent album was 2005's "Voices."

Houston, 43, was escorted to a benefit for juvenile diabetes research in Beverly Hills, Calif., by her longtime record producer, Clive Davis, People magazine reported Monday on its Web site.
'I feel great,' Houston was quoted as saying, while Davis, one of Saturday evening's honorees, told People: 'We're going to make a killer album.'
A blond Houston, wearing a black gown and diamond earrings, sat at the main table for the 17th Carousel of Hope Ball with Halle Berry and Berry's boyfriend, model Gabriel Aubry, People said.
[b]'American Idol' runner-up Katharine McPhee sang Houston's 'I Have Nothing' at the event.

Houston filed divorce papers in Orange County Superior Court two weeks ago, a month after filing for legal separation from Brown.
In the separation papers, the pop singer asked for custody of the couple's 13-year-old daughter, Bobbi Kristina, and that Brown, 37, be allowed visitation rights.
The couple wed in 1992, with Houston at the height of her fame as a Grammy-winning superstar known for hits such as 'I Will Always Love You.'

Now if any two artists remind me of each other its Lil Mo' and Fantasia. I am absolutely in love with Lil MO' I think her voice is amazing and she doesn't get half of the credit she DESERVED doing the things she did if only "hookin" in the music industry (See Ja Rule, Fabulous for reference).
Fantasia was OK on American Idol (Jennifer Hudson was my favorite that season), but I was always thinkin this chick reminds me of lil mo' week after week. Now I am diggin fantasia's new musical swagger after she ditched A.I. management and got with Violator but to me she has completely jacked Lil Moes last Cash Money shelved CD...
